Aug. 10, 2008...Linda Goehre and the "Painting My Memories" program she founded were featured in the lead story on today's "Health Corner" episode. The story focuses on the effectiveness of painting programs in improving the emotional state of people who have Alzheimer's Disease.
"Part of my mission is to raise awareness of this issue...that people who have Alzheimer's have the same emotional needs as you or me," said Linda. "This Health Corner story does more than tell the story, it shows it. Some of the artists in my program were video taped while they painted, and that footage is very touching. I am so gratified and proud for my artists. This show has national reach, and it will help many more people understand the needs - and the abilities - of people who are affected by Alzheimer's."
Journalist Rebecca Kleefisch, accompanied by a video crew and on assignment for "Health Corner," visited an AmericanWay home in Portage, WI last May to tape the interview and Painting My Memories session with Linda. While on location, Rebecca also interviewed Janis Deets Nowak, founder and adminstrator of AmericanWay, for comments and insight that round out the Health Corner story.
Health Corner host Leeza Gibbons, a noted supporter of Alzheimer's causes and founder of Leeza Gibbon's Memory Foundation, introduces the segment.
Health Corner brings "educational, inspirational and transformational" information to viewers every Sunday morning at 8:30 am central. Check your local listing for the Lifetime channel.
